"The Exercise Paradox: Metabolic Adaptation to Physical Activity in Evolutionary and Ecological Perspective", Herman Pontzer, Evolutionary Anthropology at Duke University. Seminar at 12pm at the Beaty Museum Auditorium. Coffee and cookies starting at 11:30 am at Biosci 3rd floor lounge.
Dr. Pontzer investigates the physiology of humans and other primates to understand how ecology, lifestyle, diet, and evolutionary history affect metabolism and health. He is the founder of Australopithecus.org, which provides resources and data for researchers, educators, and students in human evolution; and he is the co-founder and co-director of the Hadza Fund, which supports medical care for Hadza foragers of Tanzania and provides information on their culture. His research linking energetics and functional morphology to ecology in the great apes and humans has provided insights into the importance of exercise for human health.
