Watch Zoology postdoc Vikram Baliga explain his wing morphing research in Crosscut by KCTS 9 and Researchers Revealed series by Beaty Biodiversity Museum.
Bird wings come in lots of different shapes. Ornithologists have tried for years to understand how this shape variation could be explained by bird size and flight style, but have had very little success. Working with the Beaty Biodiversity Museum, new research by Baliga et al. demonstrates that how birds are able to move their wings -the wing's range of motion- is the feature that better explains variation in body mass and flight style.
