June 30th marks the retirement of Edythe Grant from the Department of Zoology at the University of British Columbia.
Edythe joined the department 14 years ago as the Head’s Secretary. Her role then evolved to Office Manager and ultimately HR Manager for the Department. During her term she oversaw the recruitment of more than half of our current faculty and almost all of our current staff. She also oversaw their promotions and tenure. She saw the department members as family and was respected for her friendly disposition, kindness and helpfulness. She helped maintain the sanity of the Head’s of Department during her tenure, three of whom are shown in the photo. She takes with her an amazing ‘corporate memory” of the history of the department during this period as well as a wealth of ‘confidential secrets’. We are sincerely sad to see her go but we are happy for her and her family as she starts this new and exciting chapter of her life.
